American Standard Cadet 3 Toilet - Ghost Flush
I have three American Standard Cadet 3 toilets that I put into my house last month.
Two are working great, one flushes every hour or so.
I contacted American Standard and they sent me a new flapper. I took out the old one, inspected it and found no apparent issues. Anyways, I replaced it and the water level still drops in the tank. To be sure, I took the flapper from a good toilet, installed it in the bad toilet - still didn't resolve the issue.
The supply tube is well above the overflow, so this is not the issue.
I added some food colouring to the tank water. About 10 minutes later, I can see it in the toilet.
There are no external leaks.
I also tried a couple more things. I dropped the water level in the tank to just above the flapper. The water level drops. I dropped the water level to below the flapper and inline with the flange where the flapper sits. The water level appears to stay constant.
Any thoughts on the issue?? The flapper itself is okay. Maybe the flange where the flapper sits is cut wrong, leaving a slight gap??

Have you run your finger along the flange to check for deviations, calcium build up etc?
A temp solution would be to put a thin film of vaseline on the flapper.

I did, nothing obvious to me. Good point re the Vaseline. I'll try this and see if it seals. It'll help isolate the issue

Thank you @fergy !
Can't believe I didn't feel it earlier. There is an irregularity on the flange. It'll have to be replaced.
I guess I'll have to take the tank off to replace this?

Glad you found the issue. The usual ghost flushing/slow leak into the bowl will be from the worn out silicon flapper seal. AS sent me a new one for free even though I am outside my 5 year warranty. A quick fix for the seal is just to take it off and flip it to use the side which is still good and not compressed from being pushed up against the bottom flange.

I just landed on this thread. I have a AS Champion 4 toilet and it looks like it started ghost flushing. If you google it, there was a class action lawsuit against American Standard. I guess that's why they are sending free flappers out. I have to look for my receipt from Home Depot.
I had water leaking from the tank to bowl bolt last year. I am really disappointed with the quality of American Standard.
I also found some posters saying that they will send you the whole flush assembly if you continue to have problems.
